Cincinnati Bengals Lose Yet Again

The Cincinnati Bengals moved one gigantic step closer to recording the 1st 0-16 season ever for a non expansion team.

Sunday's 20-12 lose to the Cleveland Browns was very punchless to say the least.

Backup QB Ryan Fitzpatrick was shaky and lacked touch. He played as you would expect a backup QB for the Bengals to play. Fitzpatrick was picked 3 times and fumbled another.

Believe it or not, Cincinnati did have a 3 point lead early in the third quarter and then, once again, the wheels came off.

Chris Perry fumbled for the fourth time in as many games and Cleveland took advantage of that turnover to take a two score lead. Any lead is insurmountable for these Bengals.

Next Sunday, the march to imperfection meanders on down to Dallas.

4 down and 12 to go!

Cincinnati Bengals QB Carson Palmer Gone For Season?

Cincinnati Bengals QB Carson Palmer is rumored to be more seriously injured than originally reported. Palmer may require season ending "Tommy John Surgery" to repair his right elbow.

Knowing the closed mouthed ways of head coach Marvin Lewis, Palmer may be listed as day to day for quite awhile even if the surgery is emminent.

More details will follow when more information is released.

Carson Palmer to Miss "Battle of Ohio"

Carson Palmer (elbow) is out and instead is the No. 3 quarterback while backup Ryan Fitzpatrick is in for the Bengals in a game against the Browns that had been all about Cleveland's backup quarterback during the week.

Usually the three quarterbacks come out together for warmups, but Sunday at Paul Brown Stadium Fitzpatrick emerged only with No. 3 quarterback Jordan Palmer. Jordan's brother surfaced on Friday's injury report with a sore elbow, didn't practice, and was listed as questionable. Carson Palmer, who practiced Wednesday and Thursday, said Friday with the day of rest he would be "ready to roll."

But his streak of 51 straight starts ended when Marvin Lewis gave the nod to Fitzpatrick, making his fourth NFL start and his first since his rookie year of 2005. Fitzpatrick, the first Harvard quarterback to complete a NFL pass, hasn't thrown one since that rookie year.
Another key offensive player was out with third-down back Kenny Watson (hamstring) inactive. Out for the second straight week was cornerback Johnathan Joseph (ankle) and David Jones got his second straight start in his spot.

Also inactive again were safeties Dexter Jackson (thumb) and Herana-Daze Jones (hamstring) as well as rookie receiver Andre Caldwell and rookie defensive tackles Pat Sims and Jason Shirley.

The Browns had two starters inactive in outside linebacker Willie McGinest and wide receiver Donte Stallworth.

Fitzpatrick lost his three starts to Washington, Minnesota and Philadelphia consecutively. But his run began with one of the most spectacular debuts in NFL history when he came off the bench and rallied St. Louis to an overtime victory in Houston in which he threw for 310 yards that included the sudden death winner of 56 yards to wide receiver Kevin Curtis.

He had an impressive preseason in which he put up more points than Palmer with a 104.2 passer rating, but he opened up eyes with his athleticism out of the pocket. His 79 yards on nine scrambles were third best on the team

Battle of Ohio - Round 70

Today marks the 70th edition of the "Battle Of Ohio". The Cleveland Browns travel some 200 miles south to the banks of the Ohio to face off with their Ohio rival, the Cincinnati Bengals.

Neither team has much to crow about thus far this season. Both teams are sporting lackluster 0-3 records and their rankings both offensively and defensively make this a less than anticipated game for most of the country.

The "Battle of Ohio" has produced more than it's share of excitement through the years, especially of late. The 2004 game that tool place in Cincinnati at Paul Brown Stadium (PBS) featured the 2nd most combined points ever scored (106) in an NFL game. Cincinnati was victorious 58-48.

Last year in Cleveland, the Browns won that shootout 51-45 despite Bengals Carson Palmer throwing 6 TD passes.

Some side notes for today's game:

Cleveland QB Derek Anderson could be pulled for Brady Quinn if this are not going well for him early in the game.

Romeo Crennel is under significant heat. Should the Browns lose and drop to 0-4, this could be Romeos last scene in Cleveland. (Rumor has it that Bill Cowher has recently purchased a home in Cleveland)

Marvin Lewis would be in jeopardy of having his career winning percentage drop to .500 if the Bengals lose today.

Cincinnati leads the 69 game series 35 wins -34 wins.

Even though tis would put a permanent ding in my 0-16 prediction for the men of Stripes, this most negative, yet realistic blogger sees the Bengals collecting their 1st win of 2008.

Bengals Always Lose Game Of Inches

Postmortum from the Meadowlands

When it comes to near misses, a game of inches, just being a second away...The Bengals Have Written The Book. In fact, they continue to write the book on a game by game basis.

Final Score - Giants 26 - Bengals 23 OT

The Bengals played as hard as they could play today and still came up short and looked a bit silly before the game concluded. Not knowing what to do when attempting to drive for the winning TD, QB Carson Palmer had a case of vapor lock while trying to get his team lined up on a 3rd and 1 from the Giant 21 with 25 seconds remaining. The Bengals had 1 timeout remaining but were saving the timeout for a game tying field goal, if necessary. It is always necessary with the Bengals.

Needless to say, they burned through the precious time almost knowing a field goal was the best they could muster. When the did finally run a play, they threw 7 yards shy of the goal line only to come up 4 yards short of their biggest upset in ages. They settled for a game tying field goal and impending death was a coin flip away.

The Bengals may have won this game later in the year when the season elimination was again established, but when the outcome of the game could have injected new life into this hapless franchise, every Bengal fan new that the only victory they would feel is that of the Loser's variety, "A Moral Victory".

The march for 0-16 continues next weekend in the "City of Losers", Cincinnati.

New Jersey Abuse Victim Count To Reach 45

Meadowland, NJ

By 4:00 pm EST. Forty-five (45) Cincinnati Bengal players will be throughly abused by the New York Giants. This should, without a shadow of a doubt, be the most notorist beating on record in New Jersey for 2008.

The Cincinnati Bengals, led by their lifeless head coach Marvin Lewis, make their way today into Giants Stadium with as much apprehension as a student heading to the principals office for a severe paddling.

Marvin Lewis says he likes the way things are headed for the Bengals. Maybe Lewis is standing on his head. 0-16 looks pretty good from that percpective.

The 14 point spread in todays game is a bit mind boggling. The Bengals have played two 2nd tier opponents in the Ravens and Titans, and have mustered only 1 offensive touchdowns in 8 quarters of football. Carson Palmer is a mere shadow of his old self and Chad and TJ can't stop telling you how good they are long enough consider getting back to what they are supposed to be good at. I'm quite sure Chris Perry is going to have another stellar game (averaging 2.7 yards/carry) against the Giants front seven. This will probably be a game that in which Perry has at least one fumble and most likely suffers another in a long line of injuries.

A run defense that is giving up approximately 200 yards/game and a pass defense that will only get worse should teams decide to abuse them through the air as opposed to on the ground adds to the miseries of this team.

Marvin Lewis has not only lost his team, he has lost his mind. There is nothing positive that should be said about this version of the Cincinnati Bengals. He is a coach that has seen better days in this town. Marvin is simply collecting a paycheck that Mike Brown is willing to continue to give him. This, in Mike Brown's estimation, is better than firing Marvin, having to give him the balance of the contracts value, then bring in another coach and increase his expenses. It's all a business in Cincinnati. Sport has left the building.

This blogger would be floored if the Bengals stay within 25 points of the Giants.
